Serie A: Roma Secure Big Win to Move Top of the Table

Al-Taj News – Roma moved to the top of the Italian football league standings after a resounding 4-0 victory away to Lecce on Monday in the second-round finale, showcasing their attacking strength for the second consecutive match.

The capital club had opened the season by putting four unanswered goals past Fiorentina, and they did it again, led by Dutchman Donyell Malen, who scored a brace, in addition to two goals from Argentine Matías Soulé and Portuguese Rodrigo Mora.

Malen raised his tally to five goals in two matches after scoring a hat-trick against Fiorentina, while Roma moved to the top of the standings, where they lead four other teams on goal difference.

Malen did not take long to capitalize on a defensive error, firing a powerful shot from inside the box to open the scoring for the capital club.

He scored the second with ease, converting a cross from Brazilian Wesley França, taking his tally to 19 goals in 20 Serie A matches since joining Roma from English side Aston Villa.

The Dutchman has strongly established himself with the team that finished third in the league last season and will compete in the UEFA Champions League. Only Sweden’s Gunnar Nordahl (20 goals in 1949) and Italian-Brazilian José Altafini (20 between 1958 and 1959) have scored more goals than him in their first 20 Serie A matches.
